What we collect, and why.

The short version

We do not sell your personal information. There are no accounts to create, no newsletter, and nothing is bought or paid for on this website.

Three things collect anything at all: our contact form, if you choose to fill it in; Google Analytics, which counts visits so we know which pages are useful; and the Meta Pixel, which lets us measure our Facebook and Instagram advertising and show ads to people who have visited this site.

Who we are

This website is operated by Ballantyne Foods North America, part of the Ballantyne group, which manufactures Red Feather butter.

For anything about privacy — a question, a request, or a complaint — email dairysales@ballantyne.com.au. For anything else, the contact form is the quickest route.

The contact form

If you fill in our contact form, we receive what you typed: your name, email address, and your message. The form also has optional fields for a phone number, a company name and a subject, which you can leave blank.

That information is emailed to us and stored by Netlify, the company that hosts this website, so we can read and reply to it. We use it to answer you and for nothing else. We do not add you to any marketing list, because we do not have one.

The form includes an invisible spam trap: a hidden field that real people never see or fill in. If it gets filled in, we know the submission came from a bot. There is no captcha to solve.

Google Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how this website is used: which pages people visit, how they arrived, roughly where in the world they are, and what kind of device they are on. It also records when someone clicks through to a retailer or searches the store locator, so we can tell whether those parts of the site are doing their job.

This works using cookies, which are small files stored by your browser. The information is about how the website is used, not about who you are. We do not send Google your name, your email address, or anything else that identifies you personally.

You can read how Google handles this data at How Google uses information from sites that use our services. If you would rather not be counted at all, Google publishes a browser opt-out, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings.

The Meta Pixel and advertising

We advertise on Facebook and Instagram, and this website carries the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta. It tells us which of our ads brought people here and what they looked at once they arrived, so we can tell whether our advertising is working.

It also means Meta can recognise that a browser which visited this site later appears on Facebook or Instagram, and we can show ads to people who have been here before. This is usually called retargeting. The Pixel reports page visits and general activity on the site. We do not send Meta your name, your email address, or your phone number.

If you would rather not see advertising based on this, you can change your ad settings in your Facebook ad preferences or your Instagram privacy settings. Blocking cookies in your browser also stops it, and the website will work normally either way.

The store locator

The map on our Where to Buy page is provided by Mapbox. Loading the map means your device requests map images from Mapbox, which means Mapbox can see your IP address. That is true of any map on any website.

If you use the “Use my location” button, your browser asks your permission and then gives your location to the page. That location is never sent to us or to anyone else. It is used on your own device, in the moment, to sort the store list by distance, and it is forgotten as soon as you leave the page. Typing a zip code works the same way: the search happens against a list already downloaded to your browser.

Links to other websites

We link out to retailers such as Amazon, to Whole Foods, and to our Instagram and Facebook pages. Once you follow one of those links you are on their website, under their privacy policy, not ours. We have no control over what they collect and no access to it.

Hosting

This website is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, their servers keep standard technical logs of requests, including IP addresses, in order to serve pages and protect against abuse.

Where your information goes

We are part of an Australian group selling butter in the United States, so information crosses borders. It is worth being clear about how.

This website and its contact form are hosted in the United States by Netlify. Messages sent through the contact form reach a Ballantyne group inbox, which means your name, email address and message may be transferred to and handled in Australia. Google Analytics data is handled by Google, and Meta Pixel data by Meta, each on their own infrastructure.

Australian privacy law applies to the group's handling of your information, wherever you are.

How long we keep things

Contact form messages are kept while we deal with your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards, in case you get back in touch. Google Analytics data is retained on Google’s standard schedule and is not linked to you by name.

Your choices

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email dairysales@ballantyne.com.au and we will deal with it. We do not charge for this.

If you are a California resident, state law gives you specific rights over your personal information, including the right to know what is collected and the right to ask for it to be deleted. We will not treat you differently for exercising them. We do not sell your personal information. We do share information with Meta for advertising, as described above, which California law treats as sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising.

To opt out of that, email dairysales@ballantyne.com.au, or use the ad settings and cookie controls described in the advertising section above. Either works, and the website will keep working normally.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. The website will keep working normally if you do.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, email dairysales@ballantyne.com.au and mark it for the attention of privacy. We take complaints seriously, deal with them promptly and in confidence, and will tell you the outcome.

Children

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change what this website collects, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
